Parenting Students (Students with Dependent Children)

At this time, Sonoma State University does not offer designated parent or family housing. Because of this, the standard Cost of Attendance (COA) budgets for parenting students are the same as the yearly budgets listed in the Cost of Attendance tab. However, we understand that students with dependent children may have additional expenses, and we are here to help.

Students with dependent children under the age of 13 may be eligible to request an increase to their Cost of Attendance (COA) to help cover childcare expenses while attending Sonoma State University.

How It Works

Your childcare allowance may be based on:

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify:

  • Your dependent child(ren) must live in your household and be listed on the FAFSA
  • Childcare expenses must be necessary for you to participate in educational activities, including:
    • Attending classes
    • Completing fieldwork or research
    • Participating in internships
    • Commuting to and from campus

We understand that balancing school and parenting is a significant responsibility, and we are committed to helping support your educational goals.
